Run for Freedom

Annual 5K Your Way Event

About the Run for Freedom

Join us for Run for Freedom, Peace Promise’s annual 5K fundraiser dedicated to bringing hope, healing, and freedom to survivors of human trafficking. Gather your friends, family, coworkers, or church community and create a fundraising team! Teams can participate together at our in-person event (Sunday, October 11, at Penbrook Community Park), organize their own run or walk at a time and place of their choosing, or complete the challenge individually—every mile and every dollar raised makes an impact.

Run. Walk. Fundraise. Make an impact. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward freedom.

Join us at our in-person event on October 11 in Harrisburg.
Or, choose another time for your team to complete the run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Email runforfreedom@peacepromise.org and we will be happy to help!

The Run for Freedom is one of our two yearly fundraising events that fund the work of supporting survivors. Donor support ensures that the women we support have access to everything that they need to begin to heal from the physical, and emotional pain that has entrapped them in exploitation. Funding provides access to life skills training, financial management, coaching, housing, and support services to learn to believe in themselves and gain the skills needed to take steps to transition out of exploitation. Your support provides for educational resources, counseling services, transitional housing support, legal support, and ongoing care as they embrace new lives.

Registration is completely free. Instead, we hope that our participants and their teams will partner with us in fundraising and share their team page with friends and family, not just to seek donations but to help us educate our community about the exploitation that is happening right here in our own backyard. In lieu of registration costs, we instead ask that each participant seek a minimum of $20 in donations to offset the cost of the t-shirt and administrative costs.

First, make sure you register by September 24. Second, shirts will be available October 2. If you are attending the in-person event on October 11, your shirt will be waiting for you there. If you are running separately, team leaders are responsible for t-shirt pick-up for their teams and can do so either by stopping by the October 11 event, visiting Good Ground Coffee during normal business hours any time after October 2, or by contacting runforfreedom@peacepromise.org to make other arrangements.

Nope! Many of our longstanding teams have come to love having Run for Freedom gatherings of their own and we are excited that this has become a tradition for them. (And we are grateful for the continued support!) If you don’t want to join us October 11, you can sign up as a team and complete your walk or run at a date and time of your choosing through October 18. (And we love when teams who are walking or running separately send us photos to share!!)

Dogs are welcome to join you on the Run for Freedom course and in the surrounding event area! Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted inside Penbrook Community Park itself, so please plan accordingly if you’re bringing a furry friend.
